  • Superfoods!

I have some great news! I have been accepted to be a volunteer for the Longevity Now even going on this month in Costa Mesa, David Wolfes organization. So I felt the need to buy one of his books and read it before I went as a volunteer. "Superfoods" by David Wolfe, I have only read the introduction and i'm blown away by this book already. I live a raw food lifestyle and eat only an uncooked plant food diet. I now understand why David Wolfe says we can live past a hundred years old, eat superfoods every day. In this day and age we can be the healthyest beings ever in possibly the history of man kind. In his book he expalines that we now have access to superfoods from all over the world and we can literally obtain a healty body that of a superhero!

First superfood on the list Goji Berries.

I'm already trying to figure out how to grow these in my backyard! I have a few websites i'll share today, one I found is about how you can grow your own goji berries.

Here is a youtube video of David Wolfe talking about Goji Berries.

David Wolfe says amazing things about these superfoods, I would blog them but I think it's best if anyone and everyone who is interested in wanting to be healthyer should buy this book and read it. Ok ok, here is alittle bit from the book. The goji berry is part of triditional chinese medicine. Scott Freser, superfoodist read about a two-hundred-plus-year-old Taoist Herbalist who drank goji soup every day. What does that tell you? Here is something I found in the back of his book just glimpsing through it real quick. Ordinary honey kills bacteria that cause sinus infections, and does it better in most cases than antibiotics. Read this book, it's amazing and it brings me to a new discovery in my raw food lifestyle. I will include eating superfoods for now on in my every day diet.

  • Day 3 of coming off my fast

     Okay, day 3 of coming off my fast and i'm gaining weight. 165lbs I think maybe i'm eating too much furit juices. And this morning my weight was 167lbs but last night I drank way too much fresh apple juice and was sitting around the whole night. I didn't burn it off and it might have stored as fat. I'll post tonight or tomorrow what I eat for today, and yesterday this is what I ate;

Breakfast - Bee Pollen, Watermellon, Coconut water.

Lunch - Nutiva Hemp Protein Shake (chocolate), w/ Honey, Maca, Cacao Powder, Banana.

Dinner - Juvo Slim Natural Raw meal replacement, Carrot juice.

    Dessert - Apple juice.

Drank waaaay too much apple juice. Here's what I think might have happend. I did alittle bit research online. I found this information at http://www.healingdaily.com/juicing-for-health.htm

Fruit juicing is certainly good for you, but it has one disadvantage over vegetable juicing: fruit juice tends to increase insulin levels when consumed.

    Insulin and insulin resistance

Each time we eat, insulin is released into the bloodstream. This vital hormone, secreted by special cells in the pancreas, encourages our tissues - our muscles in particular - to gobble up the glucose surging through the bloodstream after we eat a meal.

That's good news, because glucose hanging around in the blood is dangerous stuff. It can stick to proteins and destroy their ability to do their job. Kidney damage, blindness, and amputations may result.

But insulin has many other vital roles. After a meal, insulin stops the liver from releasing any fat, a potential metabolic fuel, into the blood. Why after a meal? It turns out that just like glucose, these fats, released as triglycerides, are dangerous if they hang about in the blood too long.

In some organisms, insulin plays the role of controlling their lifespan. What is the purpose of insulin in humans? If you ask your physician, they will say that the role of insulin is to lower blood sugar and you must learn right now, that is one of insulin's many roles.

    Insulin, sugar, and glycogen

When your body notices that the sugar level is elevated, it is a sign that you have more sugar than you need right now, your body is not burning it and therefore it is accumulating in your blood. So insulin is released to take that sugar and store it. How does it store it? Glycogen? Your body stores very little glycogen at any one time. All the glycogen stored in your liver and muscles would not last you through 1 active day. Once you have filled up your glycogen stores, that sugar is stored as saturated fat.

So the idea of medical professionals recommending a high complex-carbohydrate, low-saturated-fat diet is absolutely a mistake. A high complex-carbohydrate diet is nothing more than a high-glucose diet, or a high-sugar diet. Your body is just going to store it as saturated fat, and the body makes it into saturated fat quite readily.

Your body's principal way of getting rid of sugar, because it is toxic, is to burn it. The sugar which your body can't burn will be rid of by storing it as glycogen, and when those glycogen reserves are full, sugar gets stored as fat. If you eat sugar your body will burn it and you stop burning fat. Another major effect of insulin on fat is it prevents you from burning it. What happens when you are insulin resistant and you have all this insulin floating around all the time? You wake up in the morning with an insulin level of 90.

So you get the idea, you can read more about this on this at the website. -Jacob

  • Day 2 of coming off my fast

It feels great to eat again! Haha, Yesterday when I was drinking all my meals I was on a full stomach, what a great feeling to have again. Today will be alittle bit of the same, but only a few things different. Oh yeah and my weight this morning was 164lbs.

Breakfast - Pomegranate juice, Coconut water.

Lunch - Watermellon juice, Carrot juice.

Dinner - Green juice of, Swiss Chard, Kale, Mint, Golden Beet w/ Leafs.

    Dessert - Watermellon juice.

Tomorrow i'll eat some bee pollen, and drink some powders, untill then i'll let you know what i'll be having for the day. These first two days of juicing are really cleaning me out. Its alittle bit discomforting so I will just be breaking the fast and not continue juicing. Maybe by friday i'll be eating solid foods, I can't wait! -Jacob

  • 7 Day Water Fast

Hey whats up awsome everyone! I just finished a 7 day water fast and it was somewhat of a tough week. Today (10-19-09) I will be breaking the fast and for about two days i'm going to be drinking juices only, then for the next few days I will be drinking juices, eating bee pollen, algae powerders, protein powerders, and meal replacement powders. After all this then I will start to eat solid foods like fruits and soft vegetables, and I go back to my raw vegan foods! I've been dieing to eat nuts, chocoletes, dried fruits, fresh fruits, and salads!

This morning I checked my weight and i'm at 165lbs. That brings me to a loss of 80 pounds now! I did this in four months, my waist size was 42, now it's 32 so I dropped 10 sizes. My t-shirts are now a medium and I can wear medium size jackets. I am smaller now than I was in high school and raw vegan foods brought me here in four months! This is an amazing transformation. I can do 10 chin-up exercises but when I first started I couldn't do 1. So anyways, I will find a picture and post one up soon.

7 Day Water Fast - Wow, really cleans you out! I don't want to get into too much detail but I haven't been to the restroom in 4 days other than to go urinate. This morning when I drank my watermellon juice I had to run to the restroom in less than an hour, this is very interesting but this is how it works when your getting cleaned out I guess. Since the day I became raw vegan i've been cleansing my body, and this 7 day water fast is helping to get alot of old junk out of me.

Day 1 of coming off my fast

    - Breakfast, Watermellon Juice, Young Coconut water.

    - Lunch, Water.

    - Dinner, Green Juice consisting of; Swiss Chard, Kale, Mint, and one golden beet with leafs.

    - Dessert, Watermellon Juice.

I will try and recored everyday my progress untill I go back to eating my regular raw foods.
